The journal was established after a decision was issued by the Scientific Council at its sixth meeting for the academic year 1412/1413 AH on 11/12 / 1412H corresponding to 17/12/1991 approving the issuance of a branch in the Journal of King Saud University under the name of "Journal of King Saud University - Computer and Information Scineces" as of the beginning of the second semester of the year 1412/1413 H, with as goal publishing researches related to computer science and engineering and information systems.
