The Department of Computer Engineering aims to graduate engineers specialized in various areas of computer engineering, who are capable of enhancing the Kingdom's fast-paced development. The graduate performs setting up standards for computersystems, providing technical consultation, as well as supervising installation, configuration, and operation of equipment. In addition, the graduate should be capable to design, develop, manage, and monitor the performance of computer networks. With the Kingdom's entry to the manufacturing era, the graduates will take an essential role in designing computer systems and computer networks.  The graduate will design control systems for automated tasks in laboratories and factories.

The department of Information Systems (IS) is one of the major departments of the College of Computer and Information Sciences. It is considered a bridge between computer science specializations and organizational and administrative fields whereby a student gains knowledge and acquires skills necessary to analyzing, designing, developing, and operating information systems and then utilizing them in any type of public or private organizations.

The department of Software Engineering (SWE) is the latest addition to the college of computer and information sciences. It was founded on 8/5/1427H as an evolution  of the department of computer technology. The study plan of the SWE bachelor program was adopted by the board of the college of computer and information sciences on 14/4/1428H and was approved by the council of the University on 4/6/1428H.  The first batch of SWE has been graduated  in summer 1432H (July 2011).

Software engineering, an engineering discipline strongly rooted in computing, is about creating high-quality software in a systematic, controlled, and efficient manner. Consequently, there is an important emphasis in software engineering on analysis and evaluation, specification, design, implementation, maintenance and evolution of software. In addition, there are issues related to management quality, novelty creativity, standards, individual skills, teamwork and professional practice that play a vital role in software engineering.

The Department of Information Technology specialization is offered by the College of Computer and Information Sciences (referred to as CCIS) at KSU. This program offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technologies (IT). The main goal of the IT program is to produce college graduates who are capable of excelling in the information technologies, information systems department, or other functional departments, of a business or government organization.

The graduating student’s background knowledge will include the technical, business and communication skills necessary to succeed in the professional world. Program concentration will be on the development of theoretical and technical knowledge which will provide the student with the capabilities to conduct information systems analysis, design and development through the use of modern development tools.

The graduate’s technical background will provide the basic business knowledge that enables the understanding of the technical operations of a different organization and hence the organization’s appropriate needs for information technology.
